Mentee Application 2021-2022

We are currently seeking undergraduate students or recently graduated students from Latin America who are interested in water-related research and graduate studies to be a part of the Clean Water Science Network Mentorship Program.

Requirements to apply:

  • You must be a student from Latin America, currently living or working in Latin America. (List of countries provided here: http://lanic.utexas.edu/subject/countries/)

  • You must be available to attend monthly webinars and discussions on Zoom every second and third Tuesday of the month from October 2021 to July 2022 (excluding major holidays) at 8 pm US Central Time. Please visit the following link to see the corresponding webinar/discussion time in your country for the first webinar on October 12th: https://everytimezone.com/s/d1ce6e9b. You are allowed two excused absences only and you must email mentorship@cleanwaterscience.org if you must miss a webinar or discussion.

  • In January 2022, you will be paired with a mentor based on successful completion of the first three months of the Mentorship Program. You must be available to meet with your mentor at least one hour per month on a video call (Skype/Zoom/Google Meets/Whatsapp Video).

  • You will have a required monthly activity each month.

  • Expect to dedicate at least 5 hours a month to the program.


The application is due October 1st. You will receive an email by October 8th if you have been selected to participate in the program. The first webinar will be hosted on October 12th (please put this on your calendar now). The webinars will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.


Some goals of the mentorship program:

- Increase scientific knowledge on water issues

- Explore career paths and learn about graduate school

- Define your visions and aspirations

- Improve communication and English language skills


Example activities that you can participate in:

- Developmental activities (Reading journal articles together, learning new software)

- Networking opportunities

- How to write and build your resume with the help of your mentor

- Give a short presentation in English (or Spanglish)


If you were previously a mentee in our program, feel free to apply again. We are constantly improving the curriculum so there will be some new material every year. Alumni of previous mentorship cohorts will only be assigned a mentor based on availability but are welcome to join for webinars and discussion groups.
